iTunes Review

The gothic, stained glass grandeur of AFI's most ambitious album ffully captures the ferocity and life changing catharsis of the band's live shows. By stretching songs past the punk-rock mark of two minutes, and applying traces of techno and throbbing industrial music to its hardcore template, Sing the Sorrow could fill a roomy cathedral with its elaborate sound while fans hang on Davey Havok's every word from its packed pews. Key tracks: "Girl's Not Grey," "Silver and Gold," and "The Leaving Song, Pt. 2."

Customer Reviews

You won't be singing the sorrow...

If you purchase this CD. This is not only some of AFI's best work, it's one of my favorite albums of all time. Here's a review of the songs. Miseria Cantare- Dare I say the best intro song i've ever heard in my life. Gets you pumped up and ready to hear the rest of the CD. 5/5 The Leaving Song, pt 2- Great intro from Jade, right hand tapping, rock on. Just overall a great song. 4.5/5 Bleed Black- Great intro, great guitar riffs throughout the whole song and even an acoustic section. The chorus is awesome, and very catchy at that. 4/5 Silver and Cold- This is a slow, yet amazing, rock ballad. Good piano intro, and one of the best music videos AFI has ever made. Nuff Said. 5/5 Dancing through sunday- THIS has got to be my FAVORITE afi song EVER. High speed, powerful rock ballad. After hearing Silver and Cold you might have let your guard down... and then this song kicks you in the face with the best solo i've ever heard in a punk song. 5/5 Girl's not grey- Good song, yet it got a bit overrated. Love the overdub in the beginning. Not the best they can do, but yet good. 3.5/5 Death of Seasons- Davey pre-surgery has some of the best screaming vocals i've heard. Hardcore song, from beginning to end. Just listen to the music. 4.5/5 The Great Dissapointment- Probably most musical song AFI has written. I love the bass in the beginning while the clean effects are going on. Catchy song, great guitar. 4/5 Paper Airplanes- Got to be one of the best on here, i love the interlude, and if there was a song i would like to see a music vid for, it would be this one or DTS. If you're picking single songs get this one. 4.5/5 This Celluloid Dream- Very good song, another one that deserved a music video, as it is so... CINEMATIC. (those who have heard the song know what i'm talking about) 4/5 The leaving song- This was the only song that kind of dissapointed me. I don't think it took very long to write at all. It's not that bad, it's just not great. Good song to listen to when you're just trying to relax. 3/5 But home is nowhere- DAY-UMMMM!!! What a perfect way to close out an album. Perfect vocals and screaming, could not be much better. 5/5 (hidden track) This time imperfect- o.o i was in shock the first time i listened all the way to find this jewel... effing perfect song, most beautiful and powerful song on here, no doubt bout that. but alas, this review must close here... 5/5

One of AFI's Best Works

This is another great album by AFI. They've got a real dark, moody tone and evocative lyrics in that traditional AFI style we all know and love. I am impressed by Havok's vocal work and Jade's overall sound; it can be wild and exciting (The Leaving Song Pt. II, Girls Not Grey, This Celluloid Dream) or darker, softer, and more serious (The Leaving Song, ...but home is nowhere, and Miseria Cantare). If you're an AFI fan, this album's seriously worth your money, and even if you're not, it's still worth a try.

A masterpiece!

This album is spectacular. While it's a definate contrast to AFI's earlier punk rock feel, it captures a very gothic, intense sound that I never tire off. A Fire Inside's transition from their earlier works to their latter is only a testament to the band's talent, as they pulled off each genre wonderfully. Purchase it, you won't be disappointed!

Biography

Formed: 1991 in Ukiah, CA

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Although they didn't reach platinum status until 2003, hardcore punk revivalists AFI originally formed in 1991, when the band's four founding members — vocalist Davey Havok, guitarist Markus Stopholese, bassist Vic Chalker, and drummer Adam Carson — were attending high school in Ukiah, CA. Chalker was replaced by Geoff Kresge after eight months, and the band played several local gigs and released a split 7", Dork, with fellow Ukiah natives Loose Change (a band that incidentally included...
