Album Review

Chely Wright reunited with producer Tony Brown — the man behind hit records by George Strait and Reba McEntire, as well as Wright's own Let Me In — for her fourth album, Single White Female. The record picks up where its predecessor left off, offering a selection of ten songs with clean, tasteful arrangments that place Wright in the forefront. If the songs aren't always immediately grabbing, they're all classy, well-written tunes that slowly work their way into memory. Even when Wright and Brown shoot for the charts, such as on the big chorus of "The Love That We Lost," they pull it off, since Chely never oversings and the instrumentation is never bombastic. She still sounds her best on ballads, but her uptempo numbers — including the clever title track and "The Fire" — are equally convincing, which is one of the main reasons that Single White Female is a welcome addition to an already impressive catalog.

Simply the Best

Chely has had stuff from country to a little poppier sound, to her current folksy sound. But this one should appeal to anyone regardless of the genre you like best. Simply the best.

Love This Album

This album is fantastic. I love pretty much every song on it. and to the reviewer who titled their post Liar... clearly you have absolutely no idea what it is like to be gay and either love or make country music. There are no songs from a woman about a woman, they simply wouldn't allow it on country radio. She made a career selling music, many songs are about love, the bottom line is that people relate to the music. I think that gays in country do that as best they can. The fans can still relate to the music either way. She doesn't have to say it is about a woman for me to understand and relate to it. It would be nice if we could have more diversity in country music and closed minded bigots like you are precisely why it is so difficult. To anyone looking to buy this album, I do suggest it. The songs are fantastic and you will love it.
