iTunes Review

This is the mother lode — 58 Stones singles (A and B sides) from the '60s, in chronological order. And could the Stones ever churn out singles! Every A-side is a gem and even few of the B-sides seem disposable. Strung together like this they make for nothing less than a history lesson, a breathless run from the days when British rockers wanted nothing more than to play American blues through a time when every recording session was a cultural event. And this all happened in a span in which most bands today would release just two or three albums. Where to begin? At the beginning, of course. And let it roll straight to the end.

Incredible history of the early Stones, but casual fans should take note!!

The London Years is exactly what it purports to be -- the story of the Rolling Stones through the first half of their career, single by single, A-sides and B-sides. This means that it is not a greatest hits collection, despite the presence of so many hits; its primary purpose it to document an important part of rock history as accurately as possible. Note that these are the classic singles AS THEY FIRST APPEARED, which means that just under 50 of the 58 tracks featured here are presented in their MONO versions, including such classics as "Paint It Black," "She's a Rainbow," and "Jumpin' Jack Flash"—heavyweight songs that appear in their more common stereo versions on other compilations. In other words, this compilation is not your best place to get the best dose of classic early Stones; the compilations Hot Rocks and More Hot Rocks both strive to include as many stereo versions as possible for songs recorded after 1966 or so. But for die-hard Stones fans, rock music buffs, nostalgists, and anyone else who might want to imagine living through these records as they were originally unleashed upon the public at large, there really is not a more comprehensive experience.

this a pretty goood compilation of stones songs. also it should be noted that the Beatles penned "i wanna be your man" and John and Paul are actually on backing vocals on "dandelions" and "we love you" you can really hear them good on dandelions too. but anyways this is the stones we are talking bout here and this has some really great tracks on it. the stones where in there prime when they made these songs...and they got a little help form there friends in the beatles on a few tracks which is neat.

By the time the Rolling Stones began calling themselves the World's Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the late '60s, they had already staked out an impressive claim on the title. As the self-consciously dangerous alternative to the bouncy Merseybeat of the Beatles in the British Invasion, the Stones had...
