BEWARE!
This album is a great album, which is why I gave it 5 stars. But iTunes uploaded the wrong song for track 10 of 20. While the song title is correct, i.e., "You & I", the song file is "Satisfied Mind". I have let Apple know about this (after I purchased the record) but they said they couldn't say "when or if this would be fixed."
Listen to the narrator of you life. A masterpiece.
His voice is the narrator you have been waiting for to tell of all the ordinary things you just can’t. The little pleasures that we soon forget, and the pain that last but we subconsciously store into opaque bottles somewhere in the back of our minds. The surreal illusions painted by shadows on buildings used to see when you sit watching out the window of the backseat of your parent’s car, the cold side of the pillow, seeing the person you used to love, and not being able to remember what was it that moved you out of the world. Dreams, visions, prayers----if you believe like Buckley did that all things are music, his music will make you wonder if everything is music, what is a word you can give to his? Jeff’s music is like someone deeply breathing into your soul----as if it were an expanding balloon and having it explode, with the same gentle hand mending it back again. Jeff Buckley is an example. Life isn’t fair, and if you don’t believe it----believe it by the fact that Jeff Buckley never got to completely finish another album after his masterpiece Grace, but also with that believe that life is beautiful, because his music lives on and before his tragic premature death he was working on another album. Originally called, “ My Sweetheart the Drunk” Sketches is exactly what was added to the original title; a sketch, a caricature---and incomplete piece of art. But yet, even with this incomplete masterpiece is light, is glimmer, is beauty of filing in gaps of perhaps what it could be. Originals not only showcase an edgier, more soft and maturing Jeff but also retain the beauty of his more familiar songs. Songs like, “ Opened Once” “Morning Theft” “ Vancouver” “You and I” “Gunshot Glitter” and “Jewel Box” showcase the singer-songwriter soul of Buckley’s that was exhibited by his covers and originals such as “ Lover you should’ve come over“ and “Last Goodbye“ “ The Sky is a Landfill” “ Nightmares by the Sea” “ Witches Rave” “Murder Meteor Slave” and “Demon John” recall guitar driven epics such as “So Real” and “Eternal Life.” Buckley when asked about death, was quoted saying that he felt there was no end ---and with such powerful music, there never can be. Regardless who you are, where you have been, or what you believe, if you are human---Buckley is your narrator. A beautiful album.
GREAT ALBUM, but don't buy it from itunes
I would probably give this album 4 stars, but the only reason I don't is because of the fact that itunes uploaded track 10 and 20 as the same song. For anyone that likes Grace, they should buy this. Just buy it elsewhere.
