Solid but not Their Best

I have all of their albums, from the metal days, thru the rock era, their alternative drift and now to the crunch metal of today. In a netshell, it is good and solid, but not their best. Though this album would be considered more mature and refined than earlier efforts it doesn't quite have what the earlier albums had: those mind bending catchy hooks sung over by a hard rocking angelic voice. Well they are there, but they get lost in the heaviness of the whole project. Usually Bride rides this fine line of hard versus melody and in this project they gear too much to rockin us but not staying in our head after the listening is over. Yes Bride is HARD music but what makes them so good compared to other bands is that: Dale can sing (not enough of that in this album) Troy's infectious grooves (get lost somewhat) Lyrics are meaningfull (this album is too deep sometimes and the meanings are hard to decipher) The reason we still yearn for the older days of Bride is that they were the only hard rock/metal band we have ever heard that could make us cry, think, and worship God. Remember the first time you played Bride for your non Christian friends and after blowing them away you told them they were Christian? Then you told them to read the lyrics? Well with Skin for Skin, it just is not as strong. It doesn't grab you like those older albums did. I still yearn for All Hallows Eve, Everybody knows my name, Heroes, Snakes in the Playground, One, and Under the Influence. Maybe it's because I am 32? Bride get picked on somewhat because they made the best album of all time and probably will be never able to equal that again. They reached pefection once and to judge every album after that one is unfair, but it's their fault. If Snakes in the Playground wasn't so good, we could probably enjoy Skin for Skin more on it's own merits.

Finally!

I've beeen waiting for this to come to iTunes. Can't wait to download and CRANK IT!!!

Bride - Skin For Skin

Dale and Troy Thompson, original founders of Bride, have composed and recorded 12 songs that are sure to re-awaken the Bride fan base. Not since the release of the legendary Snakes In The Playground release have any of their cds been so highly anticipated. Skin For Skin is a very powerful piece of work. Dale's vocals continue to induce and incite cold chills up the spine. Troy invents some of the most memorable and groove oriented metal licks of his career. Lawrence Bishop on bass drives the bottom end like a M1 Tank and, unlike past releases, Skin For Skin is riddled with double bass thunder. Together all of these elements produce possibly the best work that Bride has ever recorded! Lyrically, Dale deals with tough subjects like racism, war, evil in the world, sacrifice and the love of one for all others. He delves headlong into themes of addiction, redemption, restoration, deliverance and love. Dale's son Alex, who is currently serving in the United States Air Force, even has songwriting credit as he shares his song about suicide on this cd. Alex could not perform the song himself but Bride did their best to interpret his thoughts and feelings. Bride also invited a special guest to appear on the cd. Not since their second release, Live To Die has guitar virtuoso, Steve Osborne appeared on a Bride cd. But on Skin For Skin you will hear his phenomenal solo's throughout. Bride is universally recognized as one of the greatest live bands to date and they now have captured the live energy in a studio atmosphere. Skin For Skin is the essential Bride cd to obtain. Twenty years have past, a Dove Award, more than a dozen full length releases, thousands of miles of touring throughout the world playing to hundreds of thousands of fans on the globe and Bride is back full throttle, all metal! Skin For Skin is an album to be celebrated. But most of all, fans should not lose sight of the true theme of all Bride albums. That is, "Christ and Him crucified".

Biography

Formed: 1983 in Louisville, KY

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s

Unlike many of their Christian metal colleagues of the '80s (Stryper, Barren Cross, etc.), Louisville, Kentucky's Bride continue to preach their message of faith, uninterrupted by personnel and stylistic about faces, going on two decades now. Originally calling themselves Matrix, brothers Dale (vocals) and Troy Thompson (guitar) began writing songs as early as 1983, but it would take them three years of anonymous labor — recording demos to sell at concerts and through Contemporary Christian...
