Album Review
The Casey Neill Trio has an intimate, well-spaced sound, with guitar, fiddle and mandolin being the chief instrumentation on most of Skree's tracks (sometimes augmented with banjo, dobro, bodhran, flute, etc.). Neill's songs are earnest, intelligent, and mindful both of folk tradition (see his fine cover of the Irish standard "Hare of Kilgrain") and contemporary tastes, injecting the energy of folk-rock as well as hints of Celtic, bluegrass, and country. Highlights include "A Mighty Love," "Love Is a Killing Thing," "Mingulay Boat Song," and "Okanogan County."

Casey Neill is a Portland, Oregon-based singer-songwriter who takes his cues from the political protest-oriented modern-day punk-folk of Billy Bragg, as well as Celtic music and poetic singer/songwriters like Bob Dylan. Neill was raised on the East Coast but moved to Olympia, WA to attend Evergreen State University, where he became interested in environmentalism and protest music.
