Kurt Russell, Disney, and 80's covers...totally cool!
SKY HIGH was a summer sleeper for me, the movie a terrific throwback to the Disney young adult classics like THE COMPUTER WHO WORE TENNIS SHOES. But the final touch to this über-fun film was watching how hip the cast of tennagers found classics that _I_ remember being played at various high school functions. This movie rocks just as hard as its soundtrack, so do yourself a favor and download this album. It's worth every song!
I melt with you
I love the song "I melt with you" by Bowling for Soup! The video is cheesy, but the song is a great twist on a 80's favorite. Lots of other 80's songs, too, such as "Everybody wants to rule the world" and "And She was". Plus, they put a Click Five song on there, which really makes it good.
Well Done Covers for a Good Family Movie
The movie was much better than one would expect given that it was not at the show for very long. Must have fallen through the cracks...shame on you Disney Promotion Machine. This is one show that pretty much the whole family can enjoy. As to the music, it is pretty clear that the songs were selected to appeal to younger viewers as well as their parents. The parents probably know the originals by heart and the kids think that they are hearing something great for the first time. If you like Bowling for Soup's cover of Melt With You, check out the original by Modern English. My favorite song is TMBG's cover of Devo's Through with Being Cool, although the whole album is decent and well done. A definite must for any 80's fan, or their kids. For a simliar album, check out the soundtrack to "Not Another Teen Movie"... If you haven't seen this movie, and need a good chuckle for all ages, rent the DVD. A definite sleeper that is worth $4 bucks to rent.
