iTunes Review
Slaughterhouse is a rap supergroup comprised of four of hip-hop’s most respected but perennially overlooked MCs. At different points over the past ten years, Crooked I, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Royce da 5’9” have been poised to break through, but mass recognition has evaded them every time. They wisely decided to join forces, and the group’s eponymous debut upholds a branch of East Coast rhyme science that has been almost entirely obscured by the dominance of the Dirty South. While groups like Wu-Tang have stayed relevant by adhering to a signature sonic scheme, Slaughterhouse is strictly about the lyrics and the attitude. Like a basketball team that chooses to stick with the time-honored tactics of good plays and fundamentals, the album is both an exhibit of awesome skill and a manifesto from a group of men with serious chips on their shoulders. The key track is the roiling “Salute,” which features verses that act as resumes — or memorials — delivered over an instrumental of weeping funk.

Hip-Hop in it's purest form!!!
Upon hearing about this group being formed, I immediately had high expectations for this group. I am both proud and amazed to say that Slaughterhouse exceeded those expectations. They can possibly go down as one of the greatest groups that ever blessed microphones!!! Sound Off: 4/5 - Serves as the intro of the album and they all come in hard - Joell Ortiz Lyrical Murderers: 4.5/5 - Producer Focus provides the smooth production and each member provides smooth yet fiery lyrics - Crooked I Microphone: 5/5 - The 1st gem of the album. Each artist proves why they were destined to rock a microphone - Royce Da 5'9" Not Tonight: 4/5 - Nice track to ride to. Good rhymes and catchy hook - Joell Ortiz The One: 4.5/5 - The 1st single. DJ Khalil provides a rediculous rock influenced beat as each member delivers solid rhymes - Crooked I Cukoo: 5/5 - The 2nd gem of the album. Each verse gets better than the 1st one - Joe Budden Onslaught 2: 5/5 - The 3rd gem of the album. Has the feel of a cypher rather than a song, which is refreshing - 4 way draw Salute: 4/5 - Excellent production by Mr. Porter and nice feature by Pharoahe Monch - Joe Budden Pray: 4.5/5 - Budden lays the hook as Royce, Crooked & Joell rip their verses - Joell Ortiz Cut You Loose: 4/5 - Good laid back track - Crooked I Raindrops: 5/5 - The 4th gem of the album. A really personal track that allows you to hear them at their most vulnerable moments - Royce Da 5'9" Killaz: 4/5 - Another cypher type song. Simple hook with fierce lyrics - Royce Da 5'9" Fight Klub: 4.5/5 - Bonus track that shows why these 4 rappers are not only great solo artists, but now also great group members as they all bounce off of each other perfectly - 4 way draw Total tally: 58/65 = B+/A- From beginning to end, these 4 lyrical beasts prove that true Hip-Hop is far from dead. The 1 thing that stood out to me the most about this album is that while each rapper comes with strong individual verses, they blend together to sound like an actual group rather than 4 individuals trying to outshine each other for the wrong reasons, which is not only a hard feat to accomplish in Hip-Hop, but in music period.
Really Took Me By Suprise!
I wasn't really expecting much going into this album. I haven't heard anything above average from Royce since The Revival. Joe Budden proved he could hang with the best with his Mood Muzik mixtapes but his second album, Padded Room, could not be played the whole way through on my ipod. I knew Joell Ortiz and Crooked I were good but if all four men did not bring forth their best effort, this would have been the most epic of fails. Joe Budden's recent calling out of the legendary Wu Tang only ended up steering me farther away from the album. With all that said, the album is great and deserves a listen by anyone that is trying to escape the autotune, the dance crazes (yes jerkin' is retarded), and the r&b>hip hop combination that are dominating today's hip hop scene. The album is just plain raw and I do believe we have the makings of a Clan for the 21st century.
SLAUGHTERHOUSSEEEEEE
