Brilliant - Buy This CD
Slave to Freedom is the debut offering from Erosian Exile. To be concise, the music rocks as hard as it is epic (and the album does in fact tell an intriguing romantic story). The focal point of the music is the interplay between singer/pianist/composer Erica Xenne's vocals and singing guitar melodies - both of which will catch listeners of any style of music by surprise. Erica's singing is unlike anything you've ever heard; due to an unfortunate struggle in her teenage years with Lyme disease, the soon-to-be Broadway singer's vocal chords became damaged and her voice reduced to a whisper. However, as she continually gave it her all, 'Slave to Freedom' showcases her ability not only to sing in a register that many can only dream of - but is also exemplary of an infusion of heavier, darker rock a la Alice in Chains... but with a majestic twist. While tracks such as "Apostasy", the title track "Slave to Freedom" and the finale "Trysticide" are heavy enough to rock the house down, songs like "Sleep On the Ceiling" and "A Muse" feature guitar work that would leave David Gilmour of Pink Floyd in awe. "Chasing Tigers" (arguably the best song on the album) might have the most creative song structure since the Beatles. This album just WORKS. Throughout all the songs, there is nothing that disappoints - the band's work is pro, and there are generous amounts of lush backup and choir vocals. Drum duties are taken care of by singer Erica's brother Jon, lending a modernized Led Zepplin-esque drumming style to the songs - keeping things rhythmic and dynamic. The sample clips don't even come close to doing the album justice in it's entirety. Do yourself a favor, pick up this album and keep an eye on this band!

Totally love the sound here, which I find to be very exciting and fresh to all the generic stuff out there. These songs all have heart and meaning, as well as tell a truly beautiful story. This is more than just Rock N' Roll...it has heart and soul! Born in a Box and Slave to Freedom are personal favorites, but I don't think there is a single "side B" song to this album. This is a group that is going places and once you hear their sound, you will not mistake it for anything else. Definately worth the money to buy the whole album!
