Album Review

An audio biography of Grace Jones, produced by Trevor Horn, it's a sonic treat along the lines of Yes's 90125 or Frankie Goes to Hollywood's first album (both produced by Horn). The music ranges from slick R&B runaway grooves to striking audio montages, interrupted occasionally by conversation about Jones's life. Serious ear candy.

A True Sonic Masterpiece

Produced by the one and only Trevor Horn and containing 8 versions of essentially the same song, this groundbreaking album paired Jones's inimicable style and voice with Horn's bleeding-edge mastery to create a concept album unlike anything heard before. The best tracks exemplifying this new sound were "The Fashion Show", "The Crossing", "Ladies & Gentlemen: Miss Grace Jones", and especially "Don't Cry (it's only the rhythm)" with its complete manipulation of channel, sound, and voice, and which put Horn at the forefront of the coming digital revolution while providing a worthwhile backdrop for Jones's powerful vocal stylings. With spoken word by Ian McShane (of later acting fame) and snippets of interview with Paul Morley of ZTT interspersed throughout, a truly unique sonic landscape of dreamlike ambience coupled with digital perfection is presented.

THE LAST GREAT GRACE JONES RECORD

Awesome concept that actually started as one song that was to be part of the Conan The Destroyer soundtrack. Hightlighs are the jazzy go-go beats of The Fashion Show and the guitar driven stomp of the title track. The single version is included here under the tittle of Ladies and Gentleman: Miss Grace Jones. Grace did not return to her real forte until the Sex Drive single and hasn't been back there since.

C'est Magnifique

One of Grace Jones' sparkling acheivements. This album has all the right componets to equal a MASTERPIECE: THE VOICE, CONCEPT, AND SONIC YET CAPTAVATING SOUNDS TO BRING IT ALL TOGETHER! 2008 WILL BE THE RETURN OF MISS GRACE JONES! SHE IS THE ULTIMATE DIVA, UNLIKE TODAY'S CROP OF UNINSPIRING WANNABES! PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN THIS YEAR GRACE.

Grace Jones was one of the more unforgettable characters to emerge from New York City's hedonistic Studio 54 disco scene during the late '70s. Born May 19, 1952, in Kingston, Jamaica, Jones studied theater at Syracuse University before launching a career as a model. Jones' statuesque and flamboyant look proved to be a hit in the New York City nightclub scene, which led to a recording contract with Island Records in 1977. While such disco-based albums as 1977's Portfolio, 1978's Fame, and 1979's Muse...
