Impressive first outing
Full disclosure: I know the guys in Mont Lyons. Known 'em for years, in fact. But I'm not writing this review for that reason. I'm writing it because as an independent folk music fan, I'm really into what they've captured on this brief EP: an eerie sense of longing. Each song is a backwards love story, a chase scene involving a man looking for commitment and a woman too wild, self-involved or self-destructive to settle down and be caught. Sonically, Sleep Talk combines the mid-tempo churn of acts like Beach House and Fleet Foxes with the wry delivery of Ryan Adams. It's a pleasing listen, one worth repeating again and again.
Perfect Melodies
I'm not much of a Folk music person but, this stuff is great. You can tell there is real talent here. I've been a fan of Bryan Oliver's stuff for years. He is very creative and I don't expect to e disappointed by his work. Brandon Is a very skilled guitar player and is a great guy. The melodies and harmonies are perfect and can take you away and help you forget the world. This is a must buy for anyone who likes music.
A true Ruth
It's no Days Old Dream, but these guys can drop a pretty big ruth. I would trust any music from a fellow SkinDiver. I also like that they released an EP with a total of 3 songs. I wanted to give this album a perfect 3-star rating, but iTunes does not understand the rule of 3 and it would have dropped the overall rating. It's sad what this world has come to. Excellent music.
