Slow Down

An invigorating blast of sunlight

     

Any new release from Terri Hendrix is a delight in my book, but this was a total surprise and a real treat. I've followed her through her career for years and I don't think she's ever before released a "lead single" in advance of a new record. But this song sounds like it just couldn't wait around any longer for the rest of the album ("Cry Till You Laugh") to come out in June — it had to break away and be heard NOW. "Slow Down" is a song that deserves room to be reveled in on its own. It's like a concentrated blast of spring that just seems to get brighter and more vibrant on every listen. I love the inspired mix marriage of mandolin and bass over the drum loop at the beginning, and just the sheer exuberance of Terri's vocal (not to mention the lyrics). She's never sounded more alive. And that's exactly how the song makes you feel, too.
