Album Review

Hanson delivered their second album in remarkably quick fashion, releasing Snowed In a mere six months after Middle of Nowhere. Granted, Snowed In was a Christmas album, but its speedy conception, recording and release shows how market-savvy Hanson and their management are. For a rushed effort, it's not half bad, containing some real charm and a smart selection of songs, but without hip producers like the Dust Brothers and Danny Saber on board, the record sounds more conventional than before, playing up their classic rock tendencies to the hilt. As a result, Snowed In is entertaining, but it suggests that the group may find themselves running out of ideas a little faster than Middle of Nowhere suggested.

Excellent album

Over the years, my family has collected a variety of Christmas albums. 95% of them wind up being generic, standard holiday fare. Some, from big stars like Christina Aguilera, Harry Connick Jr., and N*Sync, are almost unlistenable. There are only two records that we consistently play year after year--the classic Carpenters Christmas album, and Snowed In. Not only does Snowed In contain mixes of traditional and rock n' roll Christmas favorites, but Hanson's original tunes ("At Christmas," "Christmas Time," and "Everybody Knows the Claus") are just as catchy. Because Hanson didn't conform to the "sound" of the day (bubblegum or R&B-inspired pop), the record will never be dated. You can listen to it today just as in 1997 and it sounds classically timeless.

GREAT!!!!

This is a really fun album for the holidays.Whatever age you are, you have to love HANSON! They just have fun , and that shows when they sing their songs. My favorite song on this album is Merry Christmas Baby. GO TAYLOR!

not even a fan of Hanson and I love this

This is very possibly the best Christmas album I own. I'm not even a real fan of Hanson, and I think this album is awesome. If you like classic rock or anything similar to that, you will LOVE this album. It's so well done. Hanson takes normal, sometimes religious Christmas music and put their own rock spin on it and make it incredibly fun. This is not some generic Christmas album that would be expected from most celebrities--this is a fantastically well done album that deserves the praise I'm giving it.

Biography

Formed: 1992 in Tulsa, OK

Genre: Pop

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Sounding like a revamped Jackson 5 for the '90s, Hanson came storming out of Tulsa, OK, in 1997, blessed with photogenic looks and a surprisingly infectious sense of melody. Hanson had a sunny pop sense that stood in direct contrast to the gloomy grunge that had dominated the first half of the '90s, yet they also arrived with hip credentials — a handful of the cuts on their debut were produced by the Dust Brothers (Beastie Boys, Beck, Sukia), and the rest were produced by Steve Lironi, who...
