Album Review

With British arranger/conductor Robert Farnon handling the transatlantic sessions, Tony Bennett's 1968 Christmas album turned into a swinging affair, from the version of "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music (how did this song become associated with Christmas?) to seasonal standards like "White Christmas" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." Bennett's warm style was especially winning on this kind of material, making an inevitable assignment a winning combination of singer and songs. [In 1994, Columbia Records added one track — a version of "I'll Be Home for Christmas" recorded on The Jon Stewart Show — and reissued Snowfall on CD.]

Add this one to your Christmas music collection...

I got this album last year at Target under a reissue (it's third actually, with new cover art). It was recorded back in 1968 so it features Tony still in his prime. Funny how he's now the only one left of the essential vocalists now. THE CHRISTMAS SONG is very much the best song here (I grew up with this version so it holds a special place with me). HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS, MY FAVORITE THINGS and WHITE CHRISTMAS are also major highlights. The album as a whole may very well be on the the top 10 best in Christmas music.

The greatest Christmas album ever!

Tony Bennet's classic voice and the greatest Christmas songs together makes the best album for the holidays, really gets you in the Christmas spirit. Really awesome!

Tony Bennett's career has enjoyed three distinct phases, each of them very successful. In the early '50s, he scored a series of major hits that made him one of the most popular recording artists of the time. In the early '60s, he mounted a comeback as more of an adult-album seller. And from the mid-'80s on, he achieved renewed popularity with generations of listeners who hadn't been born when he first appeared. This, however, defines Bennett more in terms of marketing than music. He himself probably...
