Over the past decade, producer/MC Blueprint has been running his own label, collaborating with RJD2 on the Soul Position project, and recording with artists like Illogic, Aesop Rock, and Vast Aire, "So Alive" is the third single off his latest album Adventures in Counter-Culture, and continues his M.O. of interesting left-field hip-hop that is highly original while still maintaining the boom-bap. Print's original mix tells the tale of a working-class woman overcoming the everyday struggles of two jobs and two kids, assisted by urgent drums and plenty of echo on the vocals. Budo's remix adds some chill keys, short horn bursts, and filtered beats, while Orlando producer X:144 throws rowdier percussion and scorching electric guitar riffs into the mix. The EP ends with a futuristic, industrialized rendition courtesy of Pennsylvania group Innerpartysystem.
