Over Your Head Hip-Hop
I've been a hip-hop head since '92 and Qwel stands alone…in a good way. Chicago has produced some of my favorite emcees, and this guy is a prime example. Maker blessed this album with creative & amazing beats…this is NOT club music. Qwel's flow straight smashes your favorite rapper, his style is unique and lyrical wise…probably goes over your head. Listen, I mean really listen…BUY THIS ALBUM! I also highly recommend Typical Cats. If not, there's 1 million other below average rappers that are spitting the basics…maybe that suits you better.
Masterpiece
Alright. "The Harvest" had some brilliant tracks, buttressed by forgetable crap. "Dark Day" was a classic, but shared some of the pitfalls of "The Harvest". "Freezerburner" had many average-to-good tracks spread over the whole album, but nothing on the same plane of excellence as "Vincent Van Gogh", "Fallout", or "Deuterium". "Nerdy" was awful, "New Wine" had gorgeous production but wasn't lyrically up to par for the most part, and "Jump the Gun" was average. This album is consistently awesome, all the way through, and with any luck will stand in the Pantheon of all time great underground releases. Production, content, and cadence converge, creating an overwhelmingly exceptional piece of art. Yeah, art. A must buy.
Mind Boggling
I own every Qwel record. This one kills them all. He is incredible and Maker comes as correct on the beats as I have heard in years. From a NY cat, PROPS to Chicago. Qwel and Maker setting trends.
