Album Review
The summer of 2001 turned out to be a golden age for urban soul and contemporary R&B, as the strained credibility of such over-achievers as Jill Scott and the careering of Destiny's Child gave way to such stellar records as the emergence of Alicia Keys and the re-emergence of Aaliyah. Plus, the debut of Blu Cantrell, whose So Blu is a wonderfully fresh recasting of contemporary soul and R&B mores. Of the aforementioned trio, this is the most conventional, but it still sounds vibrant, thanks not just to Cantrell's impassioned vocals, but how the songs and productions are wrapped in contemporary mores but delivered as if they were classic. This is a record that maintains its momentum from beginning to end, punctuated by such fine singles as "Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)," and even though those singles remain the standouts, even the album tracks showcase the depth of Cantrell's considerable talents.

This record never gets old! I LOVE BLU!!!
I lost my first Blu Cantrell CD and just downloaded both of her CD's. She is such an understated artist. Her voice is just as strong as Whitney Houston's once was. All these artists that are out there these days need gimmicks like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and even Beyonce. They are all talented artists in their own right. But Blu Cantrell never needed any type of dance numbers or crazy costumes. Her voice and talent stands alone. COME BACK BLU!!!!! We need you on the radio again.
Get this CD! You will not be disappointed. Beyonce wishes her new R&B CD was this good!
Great album!
Blu was a great artist back then but I think horrible management caused her downfall. This cd is AWESOME for getting over a breakup! Specifically the tracks that would help that is "I'll find a way","when I needed you", "all you had to say", "till I'm gone" and the "Blu is a mood" to relax to after a long day. She did playboy & I heard she became anorexic. I miss her!
One Hit Wonder
Today, we look back at the 70s, 80s, and 90s at the one hit wonders that were fun to sing along to, but came from artists that, frankly, sucked. A decade from now, Blu will be one of those wonders. Sorry, but it's true.
