Better than Post Idol

Maybe its just me, but this is what I expected to hear from Lee Dewyze after Idol. I guess the Idol brass feels like they have to make the guy a pop star... I don't know. I'm more of a fan of this one than the post Idol stuff. This just sounds more grown up, more real, and flat out more interesting.

Not every fan's cup of tea, BUT still a great album...

First off, the current album cover that itunes has for this cd is WRONG! This one, compared to the original, makes it look like a kids album. I have the original physical cd, and you can google it if you want, and you'll see the original is more subtle and appropriate for the album...not the bubbly, curvy font they have going on with this one. Plus, the quality of these songs seems like they were altered, like they added a reverb to some of the singing and added bass. Personally thought it sounded fine, but oh well. Still sounds fine by me.

As for the cd, I will say that not EVERY fan will like this cd. It isn't quite the Lee everyone saw and knew on Idol. This is more laid back, more for a rainy day or just relaxing, in my opinion. With that said, I still think everyone should give it a test drive, give the songs a couple days to warm up to you. There are a couple songs on here that have that effect on the listener, so just cause you think it sounds weird or boring or bad at first, doesn't mean you'll feel that way after a few good listens.

I will say that there are a couple standout songs for me on this album, which ironically enough aren't the 'popular' ones, it seems.

First one is "Dreaming Alone". This is definitely a song that is one of those 'surpriser' songs, in my opinion. When it first starts, you get the feeling it's going to be dull, with nothing interesting going on. Keep listening, and by the second chorus, you start feeling the real song. The song has a haunting quality to it, and the lyrics of the song go with that vibe VERY nicely. The quality of his voice is what makes it what it is, because it feels like he's smoothing the song over with his voice, making it solid and vulnerable at the same time. It took me a listen or two, but soon it turned into a favorite of mine, and I'm glad I gave it a chance, because it resulted in a good experience.

Second song is "The Problem Is You". First impression of this song, for me, was country, verging on hillbilly. XD I know I know, a stretch, but gosh, the strings and harmonica sure made it feel that way for me! LOL Anyways, after hearing it a few times casually, I decided that I needed to hear it in a quiet room, no distractions, and actually LISTEN to the song. I did that, and listened to the instrumentation (even the harmonica lol), the singing, the soft, light background vocals (very subtle, but if you listen closely, you'll hear it), the lyrics, and the emotion in the song. After doing that, I fully appreciated the song, and I grew to love it. The song makes me feel sad, but not in a depressed way. It's more of an atmospheric effect more than an emotional effect. I soon realized that this song is best heard if you are traveling, maybe to the mountains or just up north in general. I don't know why I think of that with this song, but I do nonetheless, so I thought I'd mention it.

Anyways, overall I think this album is a good debut for Lee. While it isn't what everyone is used to, it's still a great album that has its strong points. Give it a REAL listen or two and see what you think. You might be surprised. :)

Great Remix Wuli!!

Steph, this is the correct cover for this re-mastered CD. One of the Wuli owners redid the pic he took with his own camera, took away the posterization from the original cover) and obviously redid the text. Maybe not the best choice, but I think it only matters that the music is tweaked (as if it could get better). I do find it a huge improvement than the last. The last version had some instrumentation that drowned out Lee's singing in some songs. This is a huge improvement in my book. Way to go RTM!!
