Best 80's Pop album; iTunes still needs to catch up

"So" is the best pop album of the 80's. A major depature from his previous efforts like "Birdy", "Security" ("Peter Gabriel 4"), and "Melt" ("Peter Gabriel 3"), So captures the listener with its layered and catchy music that's accesable for anyone. Peter's combination of synthesizers and unusual instrumentation (most notably Tony Levin's crazy bass line throughout the whole album) was unlike anything else at the time. Many PG fans dislike this album and the subsequent album "Us" claiming that they're "too bright", "too pop-y", or "too mainstream". I disagree. While So has some bright songs (mainly the hits like "Sledgehammer" or "In Your Eyes"), it has many dark songs like "Don't Give Up", "Mercy Street", and "We Do What We're Told". Heck, even songs "Red Rain" and "Big Time" have bright instrumentation but dark lyrics.

One more complaint (though not directed at So) is that iTunes doesn't have PG's entire discography up. Only "So" and "Melt" are up at the moment. What's up with that? Is it something about music rights? PG has 5 other studio albums and 4 movie soundtracks. Please add them!

One of the Greatest Non-Pop Pop Albums Ever

OK, you might find some other albums more artistic, but unless you're only into Captain Beefheart, this album is incredible that just HAPPENS to be commercially-viable too. Face it, it only got commercial from the music videos, otherwise most peopie woulda given it a miss. OK, and the movie thing! ;-)

One of the best albums i have ever purhcased

Fantastic album, should be on anyones greatest albums list. Hidden gems are Mercy Street and That Voice Again. One purchase you will not regret. Remastered is an added touch.

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

As the leader of Genesis in the early '70s, Peter Gabriel helped move progressive rock to new levels of theatricality. He was no less ambitious as a solo artist, but he was more subtle in his methods. With his first eponymous solo album in 1977, he began exploring darker, more cerebral territory, incorporating avant-garde, electronic, and worldbeat influences into his music. The record, as well as its two similarly titled successors, established Gabriel as a critically acclaimed cult artist, and...
