iTunes Review

As a member of southern California’s Green on Red in the 1980s and now as a singer-songwriter with an ever-expanding solo career, Chuck Prophet continues to mine and refine the subtle terrain of post-Dylan, alt.country songwriting. His voice has always delivered the wry, amused but doomed scenario that goes along with the details (“Happy Ending”). His guitar tones are dirty and bluesy, his tempos stick to a comforting lope, and he can’t hide his verbose, beatnik tendencies, even with a premature fade (“Downtime”). Prophet’s the guy at the end of the bar who isn’t likely to get off his seat for anyone, but draw yourself closer and the tall tales twinkle. “Freckle Song” begins things with a one-chord stompfest, while “I Can Feel Your Heartbeat” breaks out into full-color pop. “Naked Ray” offers a ballad with a few scattershot memories, while “A Woman’s Voice” admits, “a woman’s voice can drug you, like an AM radio, like a motorcycle preacher, like a Sunday far from home.” It’s these simple, odd observations that suddenly jut out and make you take notice.

Another great CD by CP

Chuck just keeps bringing new and diverse songs to his impressive book of music. A bit less of the up-front guitar that he is justly known for (just go see a live show and prepare for an amazing treat); but a great set of new original tunes. Doubter and Heart Beat will be great to hear live... and Naked Ray is the lovely ballad the CP seems to effortlessly compose. Another great one.

Chuck does it again!

I became of fan of CP at a small club in the Berkshires several years ago. My opinion, Chuck is one of the most underrated artists. Chuck blends a soulful, folk-rock attitude with blues and terrific guitar riffs. As a singer-songwriter, I look to CP for inspiration and he has not let me down with this album.

Another great Tom Petty & Stevie Nicks Record!

Oh wait it minute...it's not Tom or Stevie and it's not on a record. This is better! First time to listen to Chuck Prophet and this will not be the last. If you like your music to be original but sound familiar then this is for you. Nothing quite like it out there being done today. Highly recommend it.
