Album Review

Released hot on the heels of their fifth album, Disguises, Aiden strike twice in the same year with Some Kind of Hate. The album finds the band stripping some of the metal edge of their previous release and getting back to the dark, driving punk sound that they made their name with. With all the breakdowns and chugging riffs out of the way, Aiden is back to putting their head down and charging full-bore into the darkness, which is something they do well. Some Kind of Hate also finds the band giving a nod to some of their influences with a pair of covers, with Aiden putting their own spin on the Misfits' “London Dungeon” and Joy Division’s “Transmission.” While Aiden don't stray too far from the originals musically, they do up the intensity considerably, bringing the classic bands into the energy drink era with a snarl, while still feeling like they’re paying tribute to the people who paved the way for them. If Disguises was Aiden trying to branch out a bit to snare some new fans, Some Kind of Hate is an album that is definitely a treat for old fans who will easily assure anyone who was worried about the new direction the band was going in that the old Aiden is still alive and kicking.

It's good to see them moving forward

I was worried after Disguises, this is so much better.

Thank Gandhi, so much better Disguises.

That is all. Buy this album.

Aiden fans of the Nightmare days will be happy to hear this album as a semi return to the days where it was all emotion and story telling and not all F**K RELIGION!. altough Disguises wasn't the best i still enjoyed it, but i kind of knew Aiden would strike back with a halloween album, an album that we have ALL been waiting for. in my opinion this album is AWESOME! it has the anger angst and emotion of the first few releases of Aiden, and the hard hitting grit of Knives. a great combo, cus as anyone would admit we wont see another Nightmare Anatomy or Rain In Hell, but THIS is just as good. I pledge Aiden and give them two thumbs up and the highest praise ever, now that they are making their way to independent releases and leaving Victory i think we can all expect more albums like this! but back to the album...buy it if you love Aiden always have and always will! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!

Formed: 2003 in Seattle, WA

Years Active: '00s, '10s

Hailing from rainy Seattle, Aiden combine post-hardcore and punk attitudes with gothic aesthetics and a love of all things horror (not to mention, of course, the Misfits) to create surging, darkly melodic music. Aiden formed in the spring of 2003 while the bandmembers were still in high school, taking their name from the young ghost-seeing boy in the 2002 horror flick The Ring. A few lineup changes occurred early on; the quintet — Nick Wiggins (bass), Jake Davison (drums), Angel Ibarra (guitar),...
