Album Review

For those who thought that Brant Bjork may have used up all his cards with the 2005 double-disc set Saved by Magic, his follow-up set, 2007's single-disc Somera Sól, shows that there is never a shortage of '70s déjà vu tunes for the man with the goatee and seemingly endless curls of hair. Once again, an album of groovy yet laid-back ditties comparable to the likes of Jimi Hendrix and El Chicano is offered up, and fans will notice the inclusion of "Ultimate Kickback," a track that Bjork has been playing live for several years but never got around to documenting in a studio until now. And like many artists who look to the '70s for inspiration, Bjork focuses on jam-heavy material at times, but unlike the others, it's not indulgent or meandering (to his credit), a case in point being the track "Oblivion." If artists such as Lenny Kravitz and the Black Crowes are at the top of the class for re-creating vintage '70s rock sounds, then Brant Bjork is certainly not far behind — as evidenced by Somera Sól.

PERFECTION

Brant does it again!!!!! rock n" roll. tastey riffs .what more could a person ask for. Brant plays a certain style it doesnt change from album to album ,but if something works well why change! this is still a great album.

an underground master mind

Brant rocks, I found this album just by surfing I tunes - same way I found his solo acoustic album. ANYTHING this man does - it amazes me. From Kyuss to Fu to all his solo efforts. Besure to Check out My documentary The Force Among Us - brant has 6 of his song in our film! BUY HIS MUSIC!!!!! IT IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL!

Perfect Music for the "Ultimate Kickback"

I went to Amoeba to quench my thirst for Palm Desert Scene bands and found this... It's an amazing record. Full of funk, jazz, fuzz rock, stoner, and latin influences. Alfredo Hernandez (Queens of the Stone Age) drums on this album, and his jazzy sound locks perfectly with the syncopated guitar rhythms. Brant's sound is oh so funky on tracks like "ultimate kickback" and "turn yourself on" My favorite bit of the album is the last two tracks, in which Brant brings in half of the desert band Fatso Jetson to sing and play sax and flute, making the last two songs more jazz than anything else Brant has done. I just love how all of these desert cats are alwasy in and out of eachother's projects. It shows in a good way on this record. Overalla greaat record to chill to. Put the needle on the wax (buy the vinyl if you can, it sounds so sexy) and chill out.
