Album Review

Natacha Atlas' Something Dangerous is a bit slicker than her last, lightening up the beats and sexy intensity of Ayeshteni for more radio-friendly pop electronics, occasional vocal harmonies reminiscent of Destiny's Child, and lots of guests. Not that you could tell from the first cut, the gorgeous "Adam's Lullaby," on which she's backed by a gently playing Prague Symphony Orchestra string section. After this peaceful opener, the pace picks up with the dancehall-style "Eye of the Duck," featuring fellow Transglobal Underground member Tuup. Then the title cut gets a little funky while Atlas trades off vocal duties with the rapping Princess Julianna. A little later, Atlas takes on "Man's World." While her voice is lovely for it, the cover doesn't quite recapture the magic of her last album's success with Jacques Brel's "Ne Me Quitte Pas" and Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "I Put a Spell on You." The collaboration with Sinéad O'Connor, "Simple Heart," is a high point, and the album really hits its stride in the songs that follow, with especially good interaction between Atlas and Niara Scarlett on "Who's My Baby," before mellowing out into closing ambient cuts.

If you like Tawher you’ll Love Natacha the Queen

She has an Exotic Style very unique, somehow similar to Tawher, But Tawher mix more Electronic sounds in his songs and Sonatas,…. I will always go for natacha always.

Something Dangerous: Natacha's Best

Natacha Atlas is the world's best Arabic performer. And showing how versatile her voice can be shows that Natacha is ready for anything. Starting out with a very beautiful song, Adam's Lullaby, then rocking out with Eye of the Duck, Natacha makes these random but welcome jumps throughout the album. Daymalhum is the only track that I think is out of place, like it could have been a bonus track, because bonus tracks don't really have to fit the same style of the album. But Daymalhum is the only minor, minor, almost not really a flaw in her album. Songs 11-14 are the album's relaxing songs that sum up the album. These are the songs that show her talent. Natacha has had a very long carrer, and with The Best of Natacha Atlas' release in the middle of this year, and Beledi Roots coming out in 2006, Natacha is far from being through. Something Dangerous is an album to be reckoned with. Bravo Natacha!!!!

Excellent music!

I *love* Ayeshteni, and this album is a divergence from that one. But it's excellent nonetheless. It's not as Arabic, but Atlas conveys the heart of belly dance in each song -- she's (dare I say it?) dangerously sexy, yet strong.
