iTunes Review
It’s been twenty years since the last real Devo studio album and like many bands that were once ahead of their time, Devo now sound remarkably contemporary. Techno learned plenty from these art-punks from Ohio. While Devo could’ve conceivably released this album anytime in the past ten years and it would’ve sounded plenty in style, in 2010 it sounds like music to everyone’s ears. “Fresh” kicks things off with a tense, terse, austere atmosphere for singer Mark Mothersbaugh to “sing” in his apostrophe-hyped delivery where every line sounds like a command to dance. “Please Baby Please” is the closest the group’s ever come to a genuine love song. “Don’t Shoot (I’m a Man)” cranks with a melodic keyboard loop prepping the crunchy guitar lines and a tune anyone can hum. If not for the tight, tough production, “Mind Games” would sound like it could’ve been birthed in the early ‘80s when synth-pop first took hold. The entire album is a rediscovery of the band’s primal power.

20 Years & Something For Everybody
Wow! It's been 20 years since Devo's last studio album... a long waiting period for most of us Devo fans, but well worth it in the end! The Deluxe edition is the one to get, covering both the 'focus group' approved songs, and the other songs that were not (Those that were 'voted down' by the fans voting system, for the 12 track release)... 16 tracks of devolution, sonic documents as they're now called... Spuds everywhere rejoice, for Devo is as sharp, witty, ironic and sarcastic as ever in their lyrics, and the music is JUST as good as you remember it from 20+ years ago (right back to the beginning), but everything is now LASER focused as far as the sound quality and production values go. The vocals are strong, in fact I believe they all gel together well on this album, moreso than on past albums. "Something For Everybody" comes out at the right time, if you look at the world around us...which has become something that Devo had said was happening from the very beginning... and the price is right, more than right...and in the end, there really IS "Something For Everybody" - Duty Now For the Future!
Devo Rocks!!
As good or better than any of Devo's albums from the late '70s & early '80s! Buy this album. You will be a better person if you do. You can't go wrong with the Deluxe Package. You get videos, graphics, the combined songs from the regular AND the Song Study version. While you're at it, pick up Freedom Of Choice if you don't already have it. And THEN, go see them LIVE!! You won't regret it.
NO TITLE
I mean, come on it's freaking DEVO!! IF you can't appreciate them, you just can't appreciate good music.
