iTunes Review

Four years since their last album Let Love In, 2010’s Something for the Rest of Us kicks in as if the Goo Goo Dolls had been running smoothly and in step year after year. The workmanlike perfection is something achieved by few bands. The Goo Goo Dolls deliver arena anthems without losing a step. Every song here sounds like it could debut on Modern Rock Radio or Adult Alternative and become an instant hit. The verses are all in place and the choruses are designed for maximum catchiness. “Sweetest Lie,” “Home” and “Say You’re Free” keep up the pace we’re accustomed to from the Dolls and the title track, “Hey Ya” and “Soldier” nail down the slower end. The sound is more layered and atmospheric in spots, denoting a greater seriousness that has come over them as singer Johnny Rzeznik looks out at the world around him and reflects on what it means to him and the band. Quite a heavy step in the end for a band that once were a bit of a goof. Nothing ‘goo goo’ here.

Goo Goo Greatness

The Goo Goo Dolls represent greatness yet again as they dish out another fantastically meaningful album with lyrics that hit home and far beyond. Truly glad to have some new stuff from them as I browsed my collection of their older stuff, their hits and the simple CD songs that drew me in in the first place. Glad to own this album and you will be too. This is a must buy for anyone so please buy it and support great artists. Fantastic artists.

This album was worth the wait and AWESOME!

Every track on this album is worth listening to again and again. The band experimented with some great new sounds while maintaining all of the great drums, guitars, and vocals that I love them for. "Notbroken" "Home" and "Still Your Song" are standouts immediately. And "Sweetest Lie" has a sound different for the Goo Goo Dolls but I love it. The songs tackle everything from personal issues such as love to global issues such as war. Johnny Rzeznik delivers some of the best songwriting around in today's music scene. While Robby and Mike are as wonderful as ever. I saw them in concert and they delivered an energy-filled show. The music is appropriate for any age and is free from bad language. A must-have for your music collection.

THE BEST

Biography

Formed: 1985 in Buffalo, NY

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Early in their career, the Goo Goo Dolls were frequently dismissed by critics as mere imitators of the Replacements; however, they refined and mainstreamed their sound to become one of the most popular adult alternative rock bands of the 1990s, selling millions of records to audiences largely unfamiliar with their influences. That's no knock on the band, either — the music simply improved in craft and accessibility as the years progressed, and radio happened to be receptive to a style that,...
