Love the album as a whole...
Straight up good, soulful music that's personal and relevant.
Worth the wait!
No compromise. It's refreshing to see an artist that refused to compromise. Not on lyrics, music, message or production. This is the next chapter of a career that has been uniquely diverse. A mature culling of experiences from a lifetime of highs and lows. Thirteen songs that make up a palette rich in musical color. This preeminent live performer delivers a passionate, nuanced studio performance. Articulate lyrics display the thoughts of a man troubled by his observations of the world, but sensitive to the simplest joys of the human experience. It's that chasm, and his journey across the distance between, which allows us to transcend a solely musical experience. Most satisfying and worthwhile.
Nothing "Neo' About This Soul!!
Get a dose of this non-industry conformist soul music, complete with important messages thats always put to the bottom of the barrel. As the title suggests, its something that matters.
The title track is one that all should hear. We need to be conscious about the social going-ons in order to take the first steps to making changes. Albums like these have existed throughout the existence of soul music, and this one is a welcome addition.
"My Son" is letter to the singer's son thats a heartfelt contrast to the seemingly dominate broken relationships between father and son, beautifully sung over a melodic steppers-like groove.
"Poison To The People" is a buckshot to the current and past political climate..more so today's. Intriguing lyrics that suggest that this cd could be the new millenium's "WHAT'S GOIN' ON", which could be compared the the legendary masterpiece, except this has the inclusion of some love songs. "Butterscotch Kiss" is a real smooth love letter to a significant other which choose to uplifts with love rather than resort to the current trend of "SEX-U-WELL DYSFUNCTIONAL" industry music.
"Prescription" could have fallen into that category looking at the title, but in the hands of Kyle Jason, it's a mature call for affection and company. A good balance of social commentary and love songs that you could romance to with your significant other.
While it's gettin increasingly difficult to buy music that you can let your children and grandparents listen to, that makes statements, i feel real good knowing that i can put this on my children's ipods.
THIS IS "JURASSIC SOUL"! I wish it was on vinyl and 8-track! But i'll take it anyway it's available!
