Awesome Album

Wideawake does an amazing job. There are 3 previously written songs on this track, but they freshened them up and made them even better. I see them making it big very soon with the songs like Higher, Little more time, land of opportunity, gravity wont win, and these days. Wideawake performed for me at a charity concert I organized for the Lance Armstrong Foundation where we got a glimpse of some of their new songs and they also performed Maybe Tonight Maybe Tomorrow. The guys are great in person, and cool to hang out with. Great Job Guys!

Too commercialized

Wideawake has been a fan favorite in Austin for me for the last 10 years. Their past two albums have been great. This album is good, but doesn't live up to the standards set on their "Not So Far Away" album. What have they been doing for the last 4 years since the release of that album? They haven't been writing too much new music as evident on this album. 3 of the 11 songs were previously written. Without knowing, it seems they've hired a new producer and have "commercialized" the songs to fit radio airplay. Without having a major label backing them, I feel the band engineered the songs "Higher" and previously released "Stay," to attract a big time label. I can't fault them too much for wanting to make it big, but not at the expense of good song writing. The album starts out great with the first three songs, and "Little More Time" is an excellent song, but fades toward the end. It almost feels like they ran out of material toward the end, and just threw in some songs that were written in an hour. Despite my expectations not being met, they still delievered a descent album.

Not my favorite, but....

I can't say that this is my favorite album, but it's still good. I've been listening to these guys since the beginning, when they were playing in tiny churches up here in Washington. I think the one thing that really sets this album back is the repeats and the remakes of songs. I really liked the original Bigger, the new ones ok, but the older version is, by far, better. I'll give them a break since there's some new blood in the band, I'm sure it'll get better. Oh and, since when does age determine whether or not a band is any good, some of the best bands are old men, not that these guys are really that old. Anyway, all in all, a good album.
