Album Review

Somewhere Down the Road is something between a new album and a compilation, offering six brand-new recordings balanced with three reissues, a handful of re-recordings, and a few unreleased cuts. It’s easy to tell the newer cuts, as they’re the ones that bear slight traces of Auto-Tune on Amy’s vocals, but all of this is cut from a similar cloth: everything marches to a deliberate tempo, everything is well-scrubbed and melodic, everything is friendly and melodic without quite being hooky. If it’s not Grant’s best-known or compelling music, it is certainly representative of how she’s sounded since the turn of the millennium, and since she hasn’t done all that much new since then, it’s nice to have some new music from her, no matter how modest it is.

Better Than Ever

I originally heard "Find What Your Looking For" at the end of one of Amy's concerts in November of 2008; I've eagerly anticipated the release of this song as well as the entire album. Amy is at her best here. Even when she is singing a song she hasn't written "Better Than A Hallelujah" you know she feels what she is singing and it moves you. Every track on this album whether it is new or old is like a visit from an old friend and it picks you up and takes you out to the old swing on the porch and catches you up and moves you forward. It stirs your soul and in the end that's all you can really ask of an album and an old friend like Amy to do for you.

Daughter has awesome gift!

I just listened to "Overnight" for the first time, and couldn't believe how naturally mature Sarah Chapman sounds! She has an amazing gift, very raspy like her mom, but certainly doesn't have the same style, very ethereal but earthy, beautiful! Her voice draws you in so well. That's awesome.

Halleujah!

When I was in the 7th grade I herd the 1988's "lead me on", was one of the most influential albums in the history of Christian music. Amy truly paved the way for all female artists of Christian faith.

Biography

Born: November 25, 1960 in Augusta, GA

Genre: Christian & Gospel

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

Although Amy Grant cannot claim to have invented the contemporary Christian music (CCM) style of gospel music, she did the most to popularize it in the 1970s and 1980s before successfully crossing over to pop music in the '80s and early '90s. When Grant came along as a teenager in the mid-'70s, "inspirational" (i.e., white) gospel music was a tiny subgenre, its records sold almost exclusively in Christian bookstores and almost exclusively in small numbers. By the mid-'80s, when she released Unguarded,...
