GREAT

I especially love Ashokan Farewell, I play it on the fiddle and I've seen it performed as well, Jay Ungar did an AWESOME job.

Excelent album

This is a wonderful, moving album of Civil War songs. It pays tribute to the brave men who fought on both sides during one of the most challenging times in American history. The best songs, by far, are Battle Hymn of the Republic and When Johnny Comes Marching Home by the United States Military Academy Band, which is my absolute favorite song. The words are on the version by Ronnie Gilbert. The Ashokan Farewell is also beautiful and very well done.

Woeful, hopeful, wonderful

Excellent. Much of this music was on a followup program to Burns' "Civil War" and I had the video. I miss the commentary but still enjoy the music. The PBS program had among others Richie Havens quoting Frederick Douglas about the black union soldier, and the narration also told Julia Ward Howe waking up to sound of the bands playing "John Brown's Body" inspiring the words to the "Battle Hymn" made this music even more meaningful. While the naration is not here, I am pleased to have it again.

It was widely hailed. Its two follow-ups seemed rushed, though they contained...
