Sultry and Soulful

This is a wonderful Album by one of Boston's hidden gem. Joya, Soul Candy, is a diverse album that can appear to different moods: the mood to sit and think on a rainy day; the mood to hang with friends; the mood to cuddle up with a loved one. "Maybe" is one of those songs that can get you up and running and infuse you with energy. One of my favorite pieces is, "Fly Away". It is equally beautifully written as it is sung. I hightly recommend this album. Of course I also recommend that you check Joya live!
(Neo-)Soul Candy: So you like Goapele, Norah, Jerzee, India, Erykah, Les Nubians, CBRae...me too!

With Soul Candy, Joya has crafted a fresh yet timeless neo-soul/pop/R&B album that strikes the rare and perfect balance of raw feeling and tight production.
The title, "Soul Candy", asserts what Joya's fans already know: her versatility and depth nourish on all levels---from danceable pop songs to spirit-rousing ballads. (I sense a club anthem re-mix right around the corner.) Her commanding, sensual voice makes a killer impression with her first "mmmm"s; her range astonishes, her alto seduces, her soprano woos.
Joya's fierce, spirited lyrics easily stand alone as pure poetry. This chanteuse moves her listeners by digging deep into heartbreak, finding yourself, resilience, faith, independence, frustration, true love, and inner strength. Songs like "Don't Ya Hear Me" and "Too Little Too Late" showcase her ability to perform outside the boundaries of conventional music categories while exhibiting her strong hip hop influences and affinity for working with other heavy-hitting vocalists, music-players, rappers and beat-boxers.
Take notice of Joya, y'all. Inspire your soul and engage your sweet side; "Soul Candy" is *absolutely* where it's at.
