iTunes Review
The shouts of salvation simmer with the wail of Delta blues in Marty Stuart’s Souls’ Chapel. Revisiting his Mississippi heritage, he applies his formidable skills as a guitarist/vocalist to a set of spiritually steeped standards and originals. The result draws upon blues, rock, and country influences as well, creating a scintillating roots-revival sound to stir both body and soul. From the plaintive testimony of “Somebody Save Me” to the guitar-fueled urgency of “Lord, Give Me Just a Little More Time” and the waltzing grace of “I Can’t Even Walk (Without Holding Your Hand),” Stuart cuts to the heart of old-time gospel’s exalted power. He’s helped by the soaring vocal harmonies of old friends Harry Stinson, Brian Glenn, and Kenny Vaughn, along with Barry Beckett’s smoldering Hammond organ. Gospel great Mavis Staples adds extra authenticity to “Move Along Train.” Say amen, somebody: Souls’ Chapel will make a believer of any music fan.

A SPARKLING, WARM INVITATION
Without a doubt, this is the best CD to come out of Nashville this year. Or in a couple of years, as a matter of fact. Stuart has matured into such a great artist with a voice whiskey aged and elegant, songwriting of the highest caliber and his guitar work is of the finest. Along with that, he has acquired a stellar band that only compliments and in some cases, surpasses his talent. This CD is a joy to listen to for the tight harmonies and solid musicianship. Stuart shares lead vocals with Harry Stinson (a fine session player and backup vocalist in his own right) & Jimmy Vaughan. Every cut is a jewel. Of special spine-tingling moments for me were "I Can't Even Walk" (without you holding my hand), the stellar instrumental "Souls' Chapel" and "Slow Train". This CD is a must buy for serious audiophiles that appreciate great work in any genre. Would make a great stocking stuffer.
There's a Rainbow
Marty and his good friend Butch were quite a pair back at North Calvary Baptist Church in my childhood, and Marty has recaptured that hometown feel with this album. If you close your eyes when you listen to "There's a Rainbow" and "The Unseen Hand", you can't help but feel like you are in back in a small southern church on a lazy Sunday night. These two songs are priceless! The vocals are so powerful, and the harmony is incredible. Way to go Marty.
