Something to be had

This album really blurs the line between dance and ambient, something that is practically impossible to do. Each song is more like a "movement", such as in classical, but where violins and cellos normally do the talking, everything here is electronic. The Field really makes you feel like you are listening to a time of day, each with its own quality of light; repitition allows you to have a sense of the passing of time yet it allows you to completely disregard time altogether. When listening to these songs you don't remember when the last hook happened or where the big climax is. Instead, you are slowly taken through a series of discreet feelings that blend into one-another so well that the seperation is indistinguishable. Very cool.

Mr. Sample and Reapeat goes TOOOOOO long

As much as I have enjoyed a few of this guys pieces, the worst of my fears is coming true. I had a feeling, after several listens to the record 'From here we go sublime' that this guy would suffer from an incredibly predictable and tiring formula. I was right. He has this bad habit of sampling a few items and throwing them in an arrangement that becomes very repetitive and non-captivating. If this isn't enough, he drags the song (if you can call it that) out for an average of 10-15 minutes. First of all, it doesn't take a whole lot of talented creativity to sit there and sample pieces from anothers material. Sure, it takes time and patience, but NO composition. Then, just throwing them together in a very repetitive way does NOT qualify it as minimalism (which I am sure this guy would refer to his material as just that) THIS WILL SUM IT UP. Whatever you hear in the 30 second samples here, expect to hear just that for about 15 minutes straight. Too Long for something not so special.

Hypno-ambi-dance-trance-ica

Stutter and start. Sample, groove, restart, sample, dance, stutter, blend, stutter start. Beat beat stutter dance step start step trance step ambient trance stutter start. Five stars.

Biography

Born: Sweden

Genre: Electronic

Years Active: '00s, '10s

One of the Kompakt label's most beloved and polarizing producers (he was accused of being a formula-reliant one-trick pony), Sweden's Axel Willner debuted with Things Keep Falling Down, a 12" containing a pair of blissed-out trance-techno tracks over ten minutes in length — one of which, "Thought vs. Action," made clever use of the intro to the Four Tops' "I'll Be There." A follow-up 12", Sun and Ice (with samples of Lionel Richie and Kate Bush), appeared in 2006, leading to the 2007 full-length...
