iTunes Review

Darryl Worley's post-9/11 anthem “Have You Forgotten” remains his signature tune, but 2009’s Sounds Like Life suggests that he deserves another shot at the charts. Worley is not the grandstanding type; he works best with heartfelt, down-to-earth tunes. Songs like “Honkytonk Life” (an affectionate flashback to his scuffling days), “Tequila On Ice” (a balmy tune pitched somewhere between Kenny Chesney and John Anderson), and “You Never Know” (a string-draped ballad with a bittersweet message) show off his unaffected style to good advantage. Though much of the album sits in a comfortable midtempo pocket, Worley does turn up the heat at times, especially on the rambunctious “Don’t Show Up (If You Can’t Get Down)” and the positively steamy “Doin’ What’s Right.” He basks in a sunny romantic mood on “Everyday Love,” then injects a note of playful cynicism into “Money.” Producer James Stroud tosses in enough funk and blues elements to give the tracks some tang. Short on bluster and long on sincerity, Sounds Like Life feels real where it counts.

Marriage Proposal

by SassySoutherner

Darryl, I can't believe I missed out on you twice! Next time you find yourself in need of a good woman to marry, look me up. I love everything about you -- your personality, charm, perspective, sense of humor, the way you sing -- and your looks aren't bad either! Hey, if Catherine Zeta-Jones can marry Michael Douglas, I think I stand a chance! Met you in Stillwater, OK at Tumbleweed; sent The Krew and you a box of chocolates another time you were in the state. I'm the one who asked you if you ever thought about recording Skip Ewing songs. I had short, blond hair then. You told me I had pretty eyes. I'm sure you say that to a lot of girls, but I appreciated it just the same.

Seriously, I'm happy to know that you are doing well. You married a beautiful woman with whom you had a child. Congratulations! Keep up the good work.

By the way, while I like this latest CD, Have You Forgotten is still my favorite CD. My favorite song -- Good Day To Run. I imagine riding around in that Jeep with you every time I hear it. :)
