Album Review
After releasing his debut solo album in the spring of 2005, Bobby V. released another solo album, Special Occasion, in the middle of 2007, a slice of modern urban R&B with enough confidence to credit it simply to his first name, Bobby (assuming that everybody would know who it was). The opening track, "Anonymous," featured the talents of Timberland, who appeared to pop up on just about every R&B album from the mid-2000s, but this set the scene for the whole album, which was a series of 16 songs with Bobby making love to the microphone over a sensual beat and even more sexual strings. Especially indicative of this was the title track, which was a live get together with Valentino and one of his female fans. It was just as well the song was only two minutes long for the erotica (and hero worship) was building nicely into a crescendo. Coming from very different worlds, one could be fairly sure that Bobby V. had not listened or deliberately copied the vocal style of Craig David, but in some of the vocals, there was more than a passing similarity, although he strayed into Stevie Wonder territory on the track "I Was Wrong."

Jay-Z, A Job Well Done
Last year Jay-Z signed a few new R&B singers to Def Jam Records. Among them were Bobby Valentino and Ne-Yo. We all know the success Ne-Yo has had, and Bobby Valentino has also had his share of success. Although Valentino is no where near Ne-yo, he is stilll a solid artist, and this album shows it. I do have one question, why is there an intro as track one, and then an interlude at track four? This album has some very good collabos including Timbaland, Ludacris, and Fabolous. I wouldn't necessarily recommend you buy this whole album, but definitely buy a few tracks. Here are the Top 5 Tracks: 1) Anonymous- a great beat by Timbaland. Also some wonderful lyrics makes this the album's finest. Extremely catchy. 2) Rearview (Ridin')- a very good collabo with Ludacris. A very calming, melodic song. 3) Turn the Page- the original first single off of the album. If it more more promoted, could have been a top song. 4)Let Him Go- another big-name collabo with Fabolous. Only problem is that the chorus is very repetitive. 5)How Bout' It- wonderful piano part by Bryan Michael Cox. Although it is a bit lacking otherwise, the piano part is great.
You Ain't Gotta Turn the Page... the Special Occasion is here!
From smooth melodies to heart remedies, from club hits and even interlude skits. Bobby V aka V. Tino's sophomore album does not disappoint, matter fact it's on point.. True Story, Real Talk. When people ask you, who do you think is the hottest in the game when it comes to R&B? Many would reply Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, T-Pain.. Few would even say Bobby Valentino. I think Bobby Valentino is one of the most underrated R&B artists, when he's trully one of the top contenders. His first album brought you from the likes of top notch producers such as Michael B. Cox & Tim and Bob (many others) and heavy notch rap artists like Lil' Wayne aka Lil' Weezy and Ludacris (many others as well). That's not even including the many extended remixes from Slow Down and Tell Me. Now he's introducing a Special Occasion of songs and ballads. From appearances by Ludacris, Timbaland, and Fabolous aka Loso this album has got it all. Doesn't seem rushed (after all it did take a couple of steps back on the release date), doesn't have any recycled songs (new fresh music!), contains quality songs from beginning to end... basically, Money Well Spent. So, stop wasting your time reading this review and go cop yourself a copy! All the tracks here are my favorite, but if I had to choose the top 5 songs of this album it'd be: 1) Anonymous, 2) Rearview, 3) If I Had My Way, 4) Turn The Page, and 5) Let Him Go.
Special Occasion-Bobby Valentino
His self titled debut struck gold status and now the soulfully smooth Bobby V. is back for a Special Occasion. After several delays, he finally brings his sophomore disc. Anonymous: The second single that got the people listening again and increased anticipation, Timbaland's club production here is nicely done as Bobby's smooth voice works well here. 4.5/5 Checkin For Me: Decent track, midtempo that was smooth. 3/5 Rearview (Ridin): Timbo makes a return here for another hit, the third single, smooth synths combine for a great sound. Bobby's hook and verses are catchy as Luda's appearance is merely just for assistance. 4/5 If I Had My Way: One of my favorite tracks here, Darkchild has great production and a catchy hook make this a solid number. 3.5/5 How Bout It: Classic piano line by Bryan Michael Cox it is sweet and smooth, decent track. 3.5/5 Turn The Page: Darkchild has a great piano line, Bobby's first single, it didn't get the recognition it deserved but it has a beautiful hook. 5/5 Home Is Where You Belong: Decent production, this midtempo track was average. 3/5 Let Him Go: Dre & Vidal assist with nice production and Bobby blends well with production, his hook gets a little tiresome but Fab has a good guest spot. 3.5/5 Only Human: Production was decent, but this is a skipper. 2.5/5 Can't Wait Till Later: Tim & Bob create a smooth background that is perfect for Bobby's style as the hook shines. 3.5/5 I Was Wrong: Slow and nicely crafted, Tim & Bob's piano line with assisting synths work well for Bobby's smooth voice. 4/5 Soon As I Get Home: Good production, relaxing and smooth. 3.5/5 Over & Over: Decent track, gets a little dull. 3/5 Bobby's sophomore disc is definitely more lively and better produced, however it lacks in some spots. The highs are high leaving the bad dull and tiresome. "Anonymous" is pure Timbo magic making it a club hit, "Rearview (Ridin)" is another pretty Timbo concoction, as "Turn The Page" makes a beautiful ballad and one of Bobby's biggest tracks. "If I Had My Way" has a nice vibe along with the Fab collab "Let Him Go" and "I Was Wrong" also work nicely. The rest of the album, are mediocre or dull, "Only Human" gets tiresome and the other tracks as well. A solid album, but could have been better. Rating 7.5 out of 10
