Anya Marina Gives Us A Taste Of Something New On Spirit School
Anya Marina's latest release Spirit School is only an EP, but it gives us a taste of some new music from the sassy songwriter until her new album drops in 2011. However, don't think this new music is the "New" Anya. According to her, the EP "is a collection of similarly misfit songs that are very dear to me, but may not be quite right for the album I was--and am still--working on". The 5-song EP includes a remix of her song Satellite Heart (originally released on the The Twilight Saga: New Moon Soundtrack) and 4 new songs. All (except one) of the songs have an electronic-pop sound and are a change from what Marina usually releases. I prefer her other material over this style, but the songs still offer up the silly, sexy and fun personality that Anya is so good at. My favorite track is Spirit School, but the others are growing on me quickly. If you already are a fan of Anya, you will be satisfied with this release as an appetizer for her next album. If you are not a fan of Anya, check it out. It doesn't hurt you to try new music once in a while...heck, you might even like it.
