Customer Reviews
Terrific variety of tunes and talent...
I was pleasantly surprised at the range of talent and the original arrangements by Salem of the Sinatra cover tunes, as well as the arrangements of Salem's original tunes.
I love Jennifer Leigh's voice and I think she is a new and fresh sound on the jazz scene, and she's definitely poised to move on to the next plateau as a new up-and-coming artist. The musicianship is superb throughout, with industry pros like keyboardist Kenny Drew Jr., alto saxman Tommy LaBella, and trumpeter Steve Jankowski, to round out the mix.
Favorite songs? Witchcraft, So Many Stars, All My Tomorrows, Apollo Rising, and The Day She Passed On.
Mellow, Smooth, Inviting and Tasteful... Not a wine but Mr. Salem's latest offering!
It took a little thinking but 'Stand Up Triple' creates that very excitment that this very play in baseball represents. Mr. Salem has gone the distance with a great variety of tunes not only of his creation but by some of the superstars in music. Jennifer Leigh's voice is something to swoon at. She creates a sexy, sultry combination of styling and phrasing that is very easy on the ear. Close your eyes and she's sitting next to you saying the sweetest little nothings that we all like to hear. Lusty vocals by Nate Jacobs and T-Bone Rhodes give the lyrics a great punch that again provides that mellow feel. My favorite tracks were Fleuressence, which put me in a jazz club with my wife and making us turn around and smile at each other from the wonderful rhythms and phrasings in this sweet tune. The name of the track that I really liked best was 'Saloogie', which brought me back to my Brooklyn roots and played that game of throwing the ball around but taking care not to let its owner get his hands on it. I remember the 'Saloogie' chant and Mr. Salem brought it back some 50 years later. This is a CD that will find its way to be played not only in my home here in New York City but in my cars wherever they might be going. Got to stop writing now... Time to listen to 'Red Ibis' again.
