Bob with a bullet
As with any good title one should know what to expect; with Bob Semanchik's "Standard Interpretations" you get that and more; Bob is a seasoned professional. His acumen is obvious whether it be on acoustic or electric guitar. Bob's playing is restrained, clean and melodic, leaving room for the listener to listen. His guitar work is a part of the fabric of the songs, not above or below the music, but, within it and always complimentary. I particularly liked Ain't Misbehavin' and East of the Sun. A glass of red, good friends and a little "Cheek to Cheek" are standards; you can add Semanchik's "Interpretations" to the list.
Standard Interpretations
Very listenable. He obviously LOVES the guitar in all its colors and flavors! My favorites are the originals - the aptly titled Easy Crusin' which will play itself in your head after a few listenings, the rockabilly Blue Lobster (rollicking spiny bluesy deliciousness!), Hot Rain (should be on a soundtrack somewhere) - and the Beatles-esque version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Fresh takes on the other standards too. Whole album is a gem - he holds his interpretations to a higher standard!
BOB THE GREAT!
If you're looking for easy listening or magnificent takes of timeless songs this album is for you. Semanchick lays down track after track of solid guitar playing. Plus this music easly sets a mood for any occation. Best of all the originals stand out against such great classic songs. Don't pass this one by!
