The Gossip grow up

The Gossip really nailed it on this new album. As always, Beth Ditto's vocals are chilling and rich, and act as the catalyst to this band's success. New drummer Hannah fills in the void of ex-drummer Kathy, and overall sound of the music is cleaner and tighter. This album still has the twinge of the Gossip's Arkansas dirty gospel-r&B-rock sound. Directionally, the Gossip took a risk with this album with amazing results. The cleaner sound has resulted in a rock sound that is reminiscent of great bands of the past couple decades. I look forward to what else the Gossip has in store. Noteworthy tracks are Listen Up! and Fire with Fire.

armpit hair rules, and so do The Gossip!

Whoever it was that wrote about armpit hair is a misogynist. By the way, EVERYONE HAS ARMPIT HAIR!! If you don't like it, shave your own. Now, the review: This is one of their best albums to date (I'm going to see them play tonight!!). They always deliver a cut throat mix of punk, soul, blues, and indie. If you like those genres and politically charged music that reminds you that everyone can't fit into the same mold, then this is the band for you.

underwhelmed

alternate title would be "not great". in this album the goxxip move away from the lofi high octane tough gnarl and into the played out trendy scene beat. i wanted to like this album so much but its really boring. the music is catchy toe tappin but in a obvious way. i think ive heard most of these bass lines before from your [choose your own williamsburg band here]. beth does an amazing job here though and it is the best singing of any gossip album. its is a bummer that i dont feel the music went with the singing though. its great they want to change it up and head in a new direction but i hope this isnt it. although i will miss the rock from albums like "movement" i think they still have potential. i dont really expect to listen to this more than a few more times. while i listen to thier other albums a few times a month. there are some decent songs on here but as a whole i feel it is pretty boring and subdued.

Our mission is to make you dance, and if you're not gonna dance, just stay at home and listen to the oldies station."
