Hudson adds a personal touch to the National Anthem
Jennifer Hudson’s performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl XLIII was a little bit more special than usual. Not only did she kick it out of the stadium vocally, but she brought a sense of pride and accomplishment after reemerging from the shadows following the devastating tragedy that fell on her family last October. Although she did not measure up to Whitney Houston’s take on the Anthem back in Super Bowl XXV, which will probably always be the most memorable rendition from the American tradition, the depth Jennifer demonstrated in her vocals was unparalleled. She was able to reach the lowest of low notes in addition to the rafter-raising falsettos. The final note on “brave” was something to give inspiration to any and all listening. Again, although this was not the most memorable performance, it will surely go down in Super Bowl history as one of the most meaningful ones, and Jennifer Hudson should be very satisfied with how it turned out.
Out of the ballpark (so to speak)!
Absolutely breathtaking...Jennifer did the country proud with her rendition! Whitney's is memorable not only because of the vocal prowess, but also because the first Gulf War had just started. And for the record, the National Anthem is ALWAYS lip-synced to a pre-recorded track (including Whitney's), though I argue that the singers DO sing, just not audibly. Fact is, large sports stadiums don't have the acoustics singers need; there is a huge delay as the music is bounced back from the P.A. system, and the performance needs to also be tv-friendly. Sadly, it's a neccesity.
Wonderful rendition
The triumphant attitude and the beautiful delivery of our star spangled banner was moving and breathtaking! Not only did she sing the heck out of this with nothing but pride and patriotism, she stood as victorious in life notwithstanding the recent loss of several of her closest family brutally. She represent the "American spirit", OUR American spirit awesomely! Well done and kudos to the soon to be bride.
