iTunes Review

Gary Rossington may be the only original member left — most of the band has met with tragedy — and singer Johnny Van Zant may never equal his older brother Ronnie’s empathetic Southern drawl, but with ex-Blackfoot guitarist Rickey Medlocke aboard, there are still plenty of chances to build on the legacy. A few tunes here strike a definite nerve. “Southern Ways” chimes with a lick reminiscent of “Sweet Home Alabama” but slowed by age. “Unwrite That Song” beats with a country song’s heart. “Floyd” rattles with a nasty hook and guest vocals from Rob Zombie. The title track uses a subtler acoustic touch. “Skynyrd Nation” huffs and puffs with the bravado one might expect from an intended anthem (Van Zant even calls for everyone to “put your hands in the air” with a sly, demented laugh). The production, however, obscures some of the better moments. “Still Unbroken” and “Simple Life” are solid tunes that use a hard- rock band’s attack and a wall of sound where you need to listen closer to hear the intricacies that have always made Lynyrd Skynyrd one of the greats.

Who cares what the name is, they are still a good band and still have elements of the original. And it cracks me up reading the complaints about the politics of the album. Every rock band out there is liberal, but I still listen to them for the music, and I am a hatemongering conservative veteran. Or as the homeland security folks say, a possible terrorist. Listen to it for the music and stop whining about something the other side deals with everyday.

Gotta give them credit

Considering that only one of the original members is left, they did a damn good job. Even if you prefer the old Skynyrd (like I do), you should enjoy this album. This album has a great message, but I would not recommend it to anybody who does not believe in the second amendment or are for gun control.

Also, to the man named IMPEACH OBAMA, you are just as blinded as the Democrats are. The United States has been a socialist country for a near century now. We have not had a free market since the establishment of the Fed. You voted for John McCain? HA! I used to be just like you. John McCain is basically the Obama of the GOP. I guarantee you, if he was in office, he would be doing the exact same Obama is doing, except at a different pace. Most of the so called conservatives of today, are not conservatives at all. Ron Paul is the last true conservative. Not McCain, or Romney, or Graham, or any of these neocons.

I agree that Ronald Reagan was the most conservative president of the 20th century, but even he supported many of these useless government programs. Also, what is so bad about Ron Paul, he is the most conservative member of congress, he is honest, and above all, respsects the constitution. Correct me if im wrong, but did Romney not support universal healthcare?

Also, back to the IMPEACH OBAMA person. Enough of this birth certificate bulls**t. It has been proven that Obama is a U.S. citizen. The only thing you are doing is proving that you are completely uneducated and are incapable of actually putting up a real arguement. Instead of focusing on where he was born, lets focus on the issues.

Lynyrd Skynyrd was the definitive Southern rock band, fusing the overdriven power of blues-rock with a rebellious Southern image and a hard rock swagger. Skynyrd never relied on the jazzy improvisations of the Allman Brothers. Instead, they were a hard-living, hard-driving rock & roll band —...
