Album Review

In early 1970, the group was assigned to Norman Whitfield disciple Frank Wilson for production, and he managed to breathe some life into their stagnating career. They earned a pair of Top Forty hits with "Still Water (Love)" and a remake of Tommy Edwards' "It's All in the Game."

Still Running Deeper

This album is from the conciousness era of the early seventies. Still Water (Love) and Still Water (Peace) are exceptional songs with great arrangements, lyrics, and the singing of the Tops catches them in their late prime. Each song tends to flow into the other ala Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. If you enjoy Marvin, the Dells, and the love songs of Stevie than this will set your musical heart afire. donnieglynn

Fantastic Album!

By 1970, the Four Tops were beginning to fade out. After H-D-H left Motown in 1967-68, the quality of the Four Tops releases began to slip. This album, however, brought the Four Tops back to prominence. With great songs like Still Water (Love) and It's All in the Game, this album reinvented the Four Tops and was the beginning of the direction they would take during the 1970s. It's probably the last great Motown album for the Four Tops, and they sound just as good as ever. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

The Four Tops' story is one of longevity and togetherness: these Motown legends teamed up in high school and spent over four decades without a single personnel change. In between, they became one of the top-tier acts on a label with no shortage of talent, ranking with the Temptations and the Supremes as Motown's most consistent hitmakers. Where many other R&B vocal groups spotlighted a tenor-range lead singer, the Four Tops were fronted by deep-voiced Levi Stubbs, who never cut a solo record...
