Customer Reviews
Here is an actual review
This CD is something different from a very established band. It was released at a time when Trent Reznor was sobering up from his addictions in the 90's ... he was experimenting with a softer style of music than he had been used to as a result of this ...despite what this release date says, this CD was actually released in 2002, the same year that and all that could have been was released ... if you give this album a bad rating because you dont like it compared to year zero and with teeth (both sub par nin albums in my opinion). This album is a great remix of several of NIN's older songs as well as the song and all that could have been (personally one of my all time favorite nin songs). This album reflects Trent's changing mind set from the drunk ramblings of the downward spiral and the brilliant instrumental sounds of the fragile to his more mainstream sound of with teeth and year zero .... In my opinion this album is the last true NIN album, showing the raw emotion of trent in his prime. Im not saying that with teeth and year zero are not good albums, they are simply not as origional as past albums. ... Definatly worth the money, this is a great buy. Something I can never have - 5 stars - This song is a great piano mix of of the origional version, much calmer and cleaner, it flows through wonderfully .... Adrift and at peace - 4 stars - this song is a wonderful not lyrical song, if you dont like this song simply bc it doesnt have lyrics, then your not a true nin fan, the core of there songs are the instramental beats the fragile - 5 stars - this song shows trents raw emotion in a way that the origional version lacked ... i loved it The becoming - 5 stars - this is an amazing remix .... no questions asked ..... Gone, Still - 5 stars - this is an amazing song .. beautiful riffs mixed with amazing background synths ... The day the world went away - 4 stars - great remix, but it lacked some of the origional riffs that the other songs on this album possessed. And all that could have been - 5 stars - this is one of NIN's greatest songs of all time ... beautiful lyrics sung with an amazing voice and origional bass and piano beats ... amazing ... the persistence of loss - 4 stars - a great instrumental song, but lacking a diverse sound ... kindof boring at parts, but overall a good sound. leaving hope - 5 stars - this is what NIN has become known for .. the amazing synth noices and alternating piano and guitar beats with great background bass and other sounds ... wonderful ....
Something I Can Never Have (at least from iTunes): until now!
This is an amazing album from my favorite band. It's a companion disc to And All That Could Have Been, the live cd, but I think that this extra disc is better. It's definitely my favorite halo that's not a major album. This album is made up of 4 old tracks, completely rearranged and rerecorded, 4 new instrumental tracks, and 1 other original song with vocals. My personal favorite on this is The Day The World Went It Away. I loved the original, but this is even better. As to what it sounds like, it's probably NIN most depressing cd. Still amazing, though. Most of the music is soft, with a lot of piano and some quiet acoustic guitar. It's pretty much the exact opposite of Broken. FYI, it isn't new. It's from 2002.
Beautiful, Quiet Collection
Available with the release of the live album, "And All That Could Have Been," this nine song collection is a beautiful counterpoint to the loud, angst-ridden songs found on many Nine Inch Nails records. Includes quiet acoustic versions of classics such as "Something I Can Never Have" and "The Fragile," as well as new instrumental compositions such as "Gone, Still" and "The Persistence of Loss." Listeners will find that although this record departs from the abrasive sound of Nine Inch Nails, it still manages to convey all the deep, stirring emotions usually found in the music of Trent Reznor.
