If Sinatra got drunk and picked up a guitar in a pub....

I imagine this is what it would sound like. Nostalgic for the days of Yolk, I decided to do a little Internet searching and found that JJ was doing a solo album. I thought that he might be going for more of the lounge-singer type thing, which would have also been cool, but infusing that sort of groggy, late-night sound with the singer-songwriter feel is a nice touch and makes this album extremely easy and fun to listen to. Catchy as hell too. I've been listening to "Aint That True" every morning for the past week.

If you like the samples, check it out. JJ has done lots of great work over the years, and it's great to see him still at it. I hope he does more, cuz I'll keep buying...just like I've done for the past 15 years.

Fantastic

Lyrically I love the themes and ideas JJ touches on here, you can tell a lot of heart was put into writing and recording this. As someone who has been following this guy's career for almost 20 years, I can say for sure that JimmyJohn McCabe has hit his full stride in this work. I have it in rotation and can't ever imagine taking it out. Worth every cent. My favorite tracks are Kisses of Death, My Delta, Sweet on you and Actress in a Leading Role.

Think Tom Waits crossed with Steve Earle and The Tragically Hip

This is a great album! It has hints of Country, Classic Rock, Blues, Bluegrass, even 50's Doo-wop (Outrageous!!!). Jimmyjohn showed us his extreme range while he was frontman with Yolk. He know shows us he can mellow out and be just as overwhelming. His lyrics are well thought out and has some amazing poetry. When he throws out lines like, "You're a satellite to lower my tide" or "I have no falling left to do, I'm rising in love with you". This is the best work McCabe has done since Yolk's "Caution: Social prescriptions may cause side effects" and sounds as professional as "Individually Twisted". Many Yolk fans may have wondered what happened to McCabe as I did myself. Well one listen to "Stir" and you'll realize he is still here and is still making amazing music. BUY THIS ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!!!
