Album Review

With bassist Marcus Miller acting as producer and some memorable tunes being performed (most notably "Hideaway" and "Straight to the Heart"), this is one of altoist David Sanborn's better R&B-ish recordings. Joined by keyboardist Don Grolnick, guitarist Hiram Bullock, bassist Miller, drummer Buddy Williams and various guest musicians, Sanborn sounds fairly inspired and is in top form.

Sanborn at his best!

David Sanborn brings his alto saxophone to life with great energy and passion. Straight to the Heart, Lisa and my personal favorite Lotus Blossom really flow. The texture and sound of this cd is unmistakably Sanborn in top form, mixing live tracks with studio cuts. If you are a fan of contemporary jazz this cd should be in your collection.

Yeah!

Sanborn is the man. A cornucopia of groove, funk, and jazz. I saw this Straight to the Heart concert back in the day and the energy was through the roof. Hiram was running around the audience with that wireless guitar of his. I think he went out for a drink while he was still playin. That concert inspired me to get most of Sanborn's albums. Just try some of his music when you're with your lady. Believe me, it's magical. Cheers David! I've enjoyed your music for decades.

Straight to the Heart

Good stuff by David Sanborn. A must have for those that like the true artistry of jazz and soul.

David Sanborn has been the most influential saxophonist on pop, R&B, and crossover players of the past 20 years. Most of his recordings have been in the dance music/R&B vein, although Sanborn is a capable jazz player. His greatest contributions to music have been his passionate sound (with its crying and squealing high notes) and his emotional interpretations of melodies which generally uplift any record he is on. Unlike his countless number of imitators, Sanborn is immediately recognizable...
