iTunes Review

Ever since his triumphant debut on The Chronic, Kurupt has been one of the West Coast's biggest and busiest voices, cranking out new music at an alarming rate. Dropping countless features and steady albums with Tha Dogg Pound, he's also appeared in more than a dozen films, and puts out a new solo piece every few years. Streetlights is his seventh full-length, and while it continues his long-standing trend of G-centric rhymes and Cali-fied production, it also finds him stretching out a little in terms of experimenting with flows and cadences. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't, but it's nice to hear him mixing things up a bit. Despite nearly two decades on the mic, Young Gotti still gets nice with his, especially on tracks like "All That I Want," "I'm Drunk," and the contemplative "Yessir."

this album is Kurupt

Glad to see someone stay as close to their original style and deliver with lyrics. Reminds me of Streetz iz a Mutha ... buy it and try it !

Just what I expected... Unfortunately.

This effort by Kurupt seemed promising and could've very well been a success. Terrace Martin has delivered some impressive beats recently but unfortunately only a fraction of listenable ones have reached this LP; Those being the ones everyone has already heard. The star-studded "Bounce, Rock, Skate" has been in circulation for months and appeared first on a mixtape. "In Gotti We Trust" Im sure posed as the single which has also been released prior to this album; the show ends there. I was hoping that these two songs would reflect the remainder of the album immensely. Sometimes being an optimist just isn't worth the let down. Kurupt's evolution of nonsensical lyricism is only magnified by the lackluster beats that accompany it. Kurupt has a reverse timeline of making sense; the farther back you go in his career, the more sense his rhymes actually make. Today, he seems to just throw words into a box, shake them up, and which ever ones rhyme are used. Kurupt's most notable effort, "Tha Streez Is A Mutha" helped further define him in the late 90's after the Deathrow Records departure; technically a collective effort of not just Kurupt but the entire DPG roster extending all the way out to Crooked I. With top notch production by Soopafly, Daz, Battlecat, Fred Wreck, and even a contribution from Dr. Dre, that album has turned out to serve as an ironic reminder that Kurupt has since strayed so far away from home. To make matters worse, the collaborative "Blaqkout" left fans shaking their heads at what could have also been an instant classic. As people continue to leave the westcoast's prized possession of Gangsta Rap further in the dust, this album only validates today's disinterest in it. The pioneers have forgotten their own formula. Although it is apparent that a new twist was added with Terrace Martin covering the LP, it failed miserably. It seems the time has come for a serious regroup to make things work or a serious consideration to leave it all behind.
