POWER LIVE BAND
Odd that this band released a live Cd so soon after only one Studio CD but after you hear it I can understand why? What a great Live Cd and even better the versions of alot of the songs have been changed so it is new. I love a band that brings a fresh approach to the live show and does not do the studio versions to a T. I saw this band at the powerbox Festival over labor day and are now my fave band. If you get a chance to see them live you must. Buy this CD and the Studio one Bombshell. Both unreal CD and in this day and age a hard find for great people and a great band. Can't wait until the next release.
Great live band, decent live album
I saw Hydrogyn when they opened for Ace in Springfield, Va. I really wasn't in the mood for opening acts, just wanted to see Ace, but when these guys hit the stage, damn, they were awesome! The music rocked, the musicianship was great all the way around, and the singer is amazing! She has a great voice, she sings great in the hard rock genre, and, to top it off, she's more beautiful than my girlfriend which makes her fun to watch onstage. Unfortuantely, this live album doesn't quite capture what I saw then. It's good, and it includes the best songs from Bombshell plus a few other ones, but I would say the new album, Deadly Passions, is closer to the Hydrogyn I experienced that night than this. The quiet parts of Vesper's Song and Breaking Me Down are mysteriously cut from this album. Which is a shame because, while I like the new ending for Vesper's Song, and the instrumental after BMD, Ura Kia Scream, is cool, the quiet parts are essential IMO and sorely missed. The intro to I've Been Waiting is extended so Julie can do an interesting but pointless vocal solo. Also, as much as I love the studio version of Confession, it did not work live. But, still, good album. Cool to hear Big Star, which I remember from the show with Ace but has mysteriously never been included on a studio album.
