iTunes Review

Cray's sweet, testifying soul-style singing and stinging Albert Collins-influenced guitar propelled the hits "Smoking Gun" and "Right Next Door (Because of Me)" onto the charts in 1986 and made this the first blues album to crack the top 20 since 1972. This was the fourth album for Cray, an Army brat who was born in Columbus, Georgia, in 1953, but emerged from Eugene, Oregon, with his Robert Cray Band. His smooth, seductive vocal phrasing - largely inspired by the soul/gospel legend O.V. Wright - and his group's rhythmic debt to the Memphis R&B sound perfected by Stax and Hi Records, is a perfect match for this album's love-gone-wrong themes, which earned Cray his reputation as modern blues' poet of infidelity. Strong Persuader's sales also made Cray a leader of the genre's '80s resurgence, alongside Stevie Ray Vaughan and the Fabulous Thunderbirds.

The mother of my Blues!

by BB Lee

I was a snot-nosed punk in my twenties - listening to only rock-n-roll, when I heard "smoking gun" on a rock-n-roll station in the ATL. It changed my life forever. Now , its BBKing, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray, Muddy, Johnny Lee Hooker, Keb Mo, and the list goes on and on. Thank you Robert and to those that are considering the blues, buy this and it will change your world too. I also highly recommend "Flase Accusations." Enjoy!

The Greatest

I first heard this album when I was 13 years old and I've been a huge fan ever since. I've seen Robert play live three times over the years, and he is without a doubt the greatest guitar player of his generation. If there is any doubt about this mans guitar talents, vocals, and stage presence then just see him perform live and be witness to true greatness.

Tin-eared critics have frequently damned him as a yuppie blues wannabe whose slickly soulful offerings bear scant resemblance to the real down-home item. In reality, Robert Cray is one of a precious few young (at this stage, that translates to under 50 years of age) blues artists with the talent and...
