Album Review

The first full-length record from Pegboy doesn't have any wildly innovative musical style, and the vocals are growled and shouted rather than sung — but if you wanted beautiful singing or musical genius you wouldn't be listening to this band in the first place. The most surprising thing on this disc is the instrumental "Locomotivelung," which sounds almost progressive, like something Rush might have turned out after slamming espressos all morning. Other than that, it's fast, fun punk rock in the vein of Naked Raygun or perhaps Hüsker Dü in a lighthearted mood, enjoyable while it's playing but hardly memorable.

pegboy is still one of the best punk bands ever

if you are old school punk or new to it you need this album. you wont find it a Hot Topic, chances are the posers that work there have never even heard of Pegboy. If you are serious about your music add this album you wont regret it. Play "Superstar" as loud as you can on your stereo and you will see why Pegboy rules!

Three Chort Montie

I can only review the last five songs on this album, as they're the only ones I care for. The final five tracks were released as an EP called "Three Chord Montie" way back in the day. 1991, I think. I remember driving around in my piece of crap car listening to these songs on cassette over and over. The songs on this EP resonated with my teenage angst then and they speak to me now of better times gone by. Melancholy and driving. Worth your five bucks, at least.

Best Chicago Punk Band Ever

Pegboy is the best punk band to ever come out of Chicago. Although probably not as influential, they are better than Raygun (which a couple of its members were in) and better than Albini's stuff. If you get a chance to see a show, don't hesitate!

Something of a Chicago punk supergroup, Pegboy carried the torch for the city's classic post-hardcore sound into the '90s, albeit with a more straightforward, melodic approach. Founder and guitarist John Haggerty had been in the seminal Naked Raygun, while his brother, drummer Joe Haggerty, had played with Bloodsport and a later version of the Effigies. Vocalist Larry Damore and charter bassist Steve Saylors had both been in the Bhopal Stiffs, and teamed up with the Haggerty brothers in 1990, when...
