Customer Reviews

Summer Skills is awesome!

Arms began as an impressive solo undertaking and has now evolved into an arguably even more impressive quartet. Those familar with "Kids Aflame," Todd Goldstein's solo effort as Arms will love this album just as much - new creative perspectives are very clear in the songs, but it's evident that the full-size band that Arms now is has similiar musical interests at heart.

I liken the sounds of these songs to a winter walk at night, with the smell of fireplaces looming in the air, cars whooshing about off in the distance and stars twinkling overhead. There's a space in the mix that makes it eerie, hopeful, a bit stressed. I'm absolutely in love with this music because it encapsulates such an intriguing, almost intangible feeling that's still very much real despite how hard it is to describe it. The album holds its own fantastically both as a whole and as single songs. It tells a story, the main character of which hates the summer - It's no wonder, then, why this is fantastic autumn and winter music.

Though many of the tracks on the album have already been released freely as Arms' "EP," they've been re-recorded in their entirety for "Summer Skills." These new recordings are nuanced and, in some ways, feel different and maybe even better than the previously released versions, so they are worth your while. In short, I'd highly recommend this album to anyone and am looking forward to seeing and hearing what more Arms has to offer!

Gleaming rock record with a dark underbelly

Tight 'n sexy tunes without a wasted note. This is some perfectionist guitar pop with a eerie little macabre streak. Totally an album's album. Should be on vinyl!

i love ARMS and you will, too!

i have a special affection for arms--they are amazing and i'd be up in arms if you didn't like this album!

arms was always awesome but, they have a new added umph to their sound after lead singer, todd goldstein joined forces with some stellar bandmates to create the newly collaborative effort of arms. todd exercises his range with power packed vocals on fleeced and soothes the soul with the gently beautiful meanderings of sore and summer skills.

i love every song on here--so i'm reluctant to name standouts because they're all pretty special--

face gravity--foot pounding--pulsating
glass harmonica--there are points in the song that reach a powerful pinnacle of force
heat and hot water--just listen to it!
summer skills--i love this song and it's on constant repeat--melancholy, hope, soothing-an evening spent under pink skies and warm winds...

just buy the album--oh and see them live---even more amazing! just do it!
