iTunes Review

With his 1974 release, Sundown, Gordon Lightfoot cemented his status as both a Canadian folk music icon and a commercial powerhouse. “Carefree Highway” and the title track were the immediate hits and have since become FM radio standards. But the rest of Lightfoot’s work is similarly informed with comfortable arrangements of pristine acoustic guitars backed with a quiet, tight rhythm section, all of which serve to support one of the most distinctive voices in popular music. His easeful tone can be deceiving. There is still human struggle, pangs of regret and love forever lost in even his smoothest tunes. Sundown remains one of the man’s most definitive albums. The swirling acoustic guitars and flutes accompanying “Circle of Steel” create a most evocative bucolic setting. “Too Late For Prayin’” hides an urgency behind its laidback, string-laced gait. “Is There Anyone Home” has a long, lonesome sound that’s not quite country music but similar in its nostalgic tone for better times and places. The man makes it sound easy even when it clearly isn’t.

sundown

his best album.

Incredible album/music

HIs best album by far. I have listened to a lot of folk/country music and I have to note that the way all of these acoustic instruments and vocals are layered is truly unique. Outstanding

Sundown

If you enjoy Gordon's music (if you know good music then you definitely do) then you will enjoy this album from start to finish. A must have.
